Today we walked/ran the mileage track....
When the children start 1st grade at Zion they can do"mileage"
which is running/walking the loop around the cemetery.  7 loops = 1 mile
as the children complete miles they mark it on a card..... when they
fill up a card  21 loops=3 miles they turn it in for a "footie"
The children love to collect footies and add it to a chain/necklace.
It has been an excellent incentive to encourage exercise in the children :)

Sam wasn't sure at first about running but by the 2nd time  around
he was enjoying himself...... and hard for me to keep up with :)

and then went to their offices to visit

Today we did a science experiment.......
last week we talked about what happens when you mix certain colors together...
Today we split a piece of celery(leaving it together at the top) and put one half in red water and the other in
blue water and asked the children to predicted what will happen to the celery.....
come check out what your child thought would happen and check out what happen to the celery........The celery is on display on top of the cubbies as you come into the classroom :)

We did a science experiment....  mixing paint colors to see what happens.....
I asked the kids what they thought would happen if we mixed....
Bella: blue and red= I don't know
Brody: red and yellow= green
Brendan: red and blue=I don't know
Sam: red and yellow= orange
Kenzie:blue and yellow= I don't know...well will I get pink?
Grace: blue and yellow- I don't know... maybe red
Isaac: red and blue= I don't know maybe what Grace got...
Miranda: blue and red= I don't know
Aaron: red and blue= I don't know maybe white.... no pink
Ivan: blue and yellow= I don't know

It was fun to see the kiddos reactions to discovering a new color.  Since we have not done this with the kids before I did not expect the children to know what would happen and when they got to see the colors change was a lot of fun!!! We will hang their colorful art work next week(when it dries:) )
We will do more color experiments next week!

During Jesus time we heard the bible story of Zacchaeus.
It was just a brief introduction and we will continue with this story next week:)
Also next week we are going to do some of our own gardening.... well.....
we are going to plant a rock garden:)
The children are loving the gardening unit and I thought it would be fun to actually do some gardening.  However, we realistically do not have enough time to plant flowers, so a rock garden would be fun too.
To help us do this we need a few donations.......

What fun everyone is having with our Spring Unit!!!! There are so many fun choices everyone keeps busy the whole morning.

Please remember to turn in the picnic permission slip for the Week Of the Young Child.
If you don't still have the email with the attachment or need me to print a copy, please just let me know:)  A big thank you for those we have already turned them in.  It will lots of fun to stay longer and have lunch with our friends, as well as, other preschool classrooms :)

YUM!  Our Resurrection Rolls!!

Discovering what is (or isn't ) inside our rolls.....

This activity is just another way to reinforce Jesus is Risen!!!

We have talked many times about Jesus dying on the cross and that  his friends placed him
in a tomb and then when the women returned 3 days later they found an empty tomb.
So for resurrection rolls.... you take a crescent roll...which represents the tomb
then a marshmallow (which represents Jesus) and then lay the marshmallow (dipped in butter and then rolled in cinnamon) on the crescent roll. Next roll the crescent roll up(close the tomb) pinch ends together.
Bake and then open the roll up( break in the center)... center is hallow (marshmallow melts---we really didn't tell the kids it melted)
But it was so cool to see their faces when the crescent roll was empty like the tomb!!

Time flies and I think the children are really enjoying themselves this week!!   Lots of fun with the flower shop 
and digging in the sensory table.  As well as, going on a Jesus is Risen parade and making Resurrection rolls... we had a super busy day!!!
